Midsummer/Jersey is the hilarious high-octane re-telling of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream set on the boardwalk of a seaside town in modern-day Wildwood, New Jersey. The story revolves around the impending marriage of the Governor of New Jersey, the love affairs of four beach-bound high school crushes, a lively crew of fairies and the staff of the local beauty salon (run by Patti Quince and Stylist Nikki Bottom). The night takes a magical turn when Oberon and the impish Puck arrive on the scene armed with a powerful love potion and a desire for mischief making. With several weddings and the acting careers of six beauticians hanging in the balance, the lovers take to the boardwalk, backed by pop music and an iPhone-obsessed wood sprite.

About the workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to give students skills in Yoga, Wellness Techniques and QiGong to bring the each individual to a heightened level of performing. Bringing awareness of the whole body into the art of acting and singing is addressed through discussion, movement and breath.

The workshop is focused on the YogaSing Technique to increase body awareness. Wellness techniques, Yoga poses to maintain physical energy while seated and standing and QiGong sequences that bring a mental focus connected with movement are introduced. Breath work to open up the body for song is taught throughout the session.

In the Yoga for the Practice Room portion, poses and breath that are helpful to clear the mind to prepare for singing are introduced. Surface tension issues will also be addressed. We then move to sequences for the middle of practice when singers have been seated for long periods of time. Exercises to bring a positive closure to the practice time and breath work and movement to be done backstage to prepare for performance complete the session.

The second class will briefly revisit the YogaSing Routine for any students that were not able to attend the first class. After the YogaSing warm up we will focus more onWellness Techniques and introduce the Chakra System and how knowledge of this system can help the singer in the practice room and on stage.
